LinkedIn Updates Target Growing Mobile Users

In just one year, the number of LinkedIn users accessing their profile via mobile devices has more than doubled. Today, more than 23 percent of activity is from smart phones and tablets. This growth was likely helped by the recent roll-out of apps for the iPad and Windows Phone. Additionally, LinkedIn enabled easier new member sign-up via mobile to address the 15 percent of members who come in from mobile. The ability to edit your profile in mobile is said to be coming soon, by the way. In the mean time, given all this mobile activity, LinkedIn has announced more new features to better play to the needs of its skyrocketing mobile audience. So, what can you expect?

The most notable feature addition is probably that of push notifications for iPhone and Android devices. The real-time updates are pushed to your mobile phone when other LinkedIn members like or comment on articles you’ve shared, view your profile, accepts your invites and more. This follows the announcement of real-time notifier features on profile pages – but that feature has yet to be rolled out to all members (which make these mobile features updates even more useful – and makes online networking even easier!).

According to LinkedIn, other feature updates for iPhone and Android include:

  • Mobile Company pages: From you mobile device, you can now see which of your connections work at other companies you are following, you can also receive  news and updates from those companies, and get noticed of new job openings.
  • Limited Job listing viewing: aIn case you are surfing job opportunities and don’t want employers to see that, you can now access various job listings based on your interests, directly within your mobile update stream.

Features for the iPad:

  • Adding 6 languages: It’s no surprise that LinkedIn is expanding the languages in which it’s available given thatn 60 percent of members are based outside the U.S. With the most recent feature release for the iPad, LinkedIn is now available in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean – with the promise of more languages to come, soon.
  • Notifications and Company Pages:  The same feature releases for iPhone and Android devices are also available on the iPad.
